In the early days of TTF , when HIV treatment wasn't available in Zambia, our priority was getting children onto ART (Anti-retroviral Treatment). Thanks to your ongoing support over the years we have been able to initiate over 2000 children, adolescents and pregnant women onto treatment. After 13 years we know that alone medication is NOT enough for the vulnerable children we work with. Many of the children who come to TTF live with large families, in one room houses, surviving on as little as $2 per day. Their lives are complicated. | Access to treatment and medication may have improved improved but HIV myths and stigma remain the biggest barrier to people accessing treatment. Without the right support and HIV information, HIV+ children will drop out of care and fail treatment. In the past two years we have been working tirelessly to identify children and adolescents living with HIV; support them in coming to the clinic; and understand their needs in order to stay on treatment. |
