Kim, who was born in 2017 to an HIV-positive mother, was tracked and observed for up to two years to ensure that there was no HIV transmission from mother to child. With proper adherence to HIV prophylaxis medication, which prevents the HIV from passing through breast milk to the baby, Kim had all of his HIV tests come back negative. As a result, he was no longer tested, and his file was closed. Kim exemplifies how a child born to an HIV-positive mother may be HIV-negative and live a healthy life. Five years later, he still accompanies his mother to her clinic appointments, and Tiny Tim and Friends are always pleased to see him in good health.
OTHER WAYS TO GIVE
We understand that not everyone is in the financial position to donate to our work but there are plenty of other ways to give to ensure that HIV+ children are supported:
- Give a gift in Kind - We accept in-kind donations from organisations and individuals of clothes, equipment or items which can benefit the vulnerable children we work with.
- Fundraise for TTF - There are many ways you can raise the vital funds to support HIV+ children in Lusaka through TTF including dinners, hosting events, running marathons, sponsored silences.
- Volunteer your time - Volunteering can be one of the most rewarding ways to gain relevant work experience in a front-line setting. We are always looking for medical and non-medical volunteers to support our work.
- Provide partnership linkages - Does your organisation provide charity giving? Do you know of donors who would be interested in our work - help to build a linkage for us through introductions.
